For years, Project Airtime has helped people experience the freedom of flight at Utah’s Point of the Mountain. Through hundreds of adaptive paragliding flights, volunteer support, and opportunities for aspiring solo pilots, the organization has opened the sky to people with different mobility needs.
Now, that mission is expanding—with an idea inspired by two longtime friends and a trip to Colombia.
A Little Power. A Lot of Possibility.
During a 2026 trip, two wheelchair users who had been flying with Project Airtime for a decade arrived with something new: powered attachments for their wheelchairs.
These battery-powered devices connect to the front of a manual wheelchair, adding a driven wheel and handlebars to help users travel farther with less pushing.
Both friends had spent years propelling their chairs manually. But the strain on their shoulders had made everyday assistance increasingly valuable. Powered mobility offered a way to conserve energy while keeping the freedom to get out and explore.
In Colombia, the difference was easy to see. They were traveling two miles into town, heading back with pastries, and laughing along the way. Ordinary errands had become opportunities to move around more freely.
For the Project Airtime team, those trips sparked a new purpose.
Bringing Freedom Into Everyday Life
Until now, Project Airtime’s answer to someone seeking an experience was simple: if you wanted to fly, the team could help.
What about someone who didn’t want to fly—or whose most pressing need was getting to the grocery store, visiting a friend, or taking their dog down the road?
This new initiative creates an opportunity to support those people, too.
Project Airtime is working to make powered wheelchair attachments available to people who need them and cannot afford them independently. The goal is to help expand everyday mobility, particularly for people with limited transportation options.
The same spirit behind an adaptive flight now has another outlet: helping someone go where they want to go.
How You Can Be Part of It
Over the years, supporters have asked Project Airtime, “How can I help?”
The team now has a new answer: targeted sponsorships that connect an individual who needs a powered mobility device with someone who wants to help make it possible.
That personal connection is central to the vision. Each sponsorship would support a specific person and a practical change in their daily life.
At Super Fly, we’re excited to share this next chapter in Project Airtime’s work. The joy that brings people together in the air can reach into everyday life, creating more opportunities for independence, connection, and exploration.
